Steps to Filing an Insurance Claim

If you live in an area that has received substantial winds and hail, it is helpful to know the claims process and what to expect. We have helped thousands’s of homeowners in the claim process, we understand the process and we make it easy for you.  If you have experienced storm damage from wind or hail, you should inspect your personal property to see if any damage occurred to your vehicles, siding, shutters or wood fences. This can help determine if roof damage may have happened.  Contact Frailey Roofing for a roof evaluation to see if your roof has sustained damage.

  • Write down the date of the hail storm and take pictures of the wind or hail that resulted from this storm. Save this information so you can show your insurance agent.
  • Contact Frailey Roofing for a roof evaluation before filing a claim to confirm your roof has damage.  Not all roofs are the same and not all roofs sustain damage during a storm.  You do not want to file a claim if you do not have adequate damage.
  • If you have storm damage that is claimable through an insurance claim, we can assist you in filing your claim.
  • Contact your insurance agent and review your specific policy for filing claims and how it will affect your policy in the event that you do file a claim.
  • When you file a claim, your insurance company will send out a claims adjuster to process your claim.  Frailey Roofing can be present when the insurance adjuster comes out to your home.
  • Once the adjuster has evaluated your property for damage, they will provide you with a settlement amount at that time, or will provide it to you once the settlement amount has been completed.
  • Review your settlement amount and the items that were covered.  If you have questions, you should ask your claims adjuster or agent.  Frailey Roofing is also experienced in reviewing claim settlements for what has been approved.
  • Frailey Roofing can typically work within the settlement amount and if it is insufficient, we can work with your claims adjuster for adjustments.
  • Complete the work as soon as possible after your claim has been approved. If you are unable to complete the work in a timely manner, contact your claims department and find out how long you have to complete the work. Most insurance companies allow 12 months to complete the work; however, extensions can sometimes be granted with approval from your claims department.
  • During catastrophic storms, your contractor will not be able to complete your work immediately.  This is due to many factors, including availability on product.  It is important to remain patient during this time.
  • Typically insurance companies will send the homeowner a partial check to start on the work.  Once the work has been completed, Frailey Roofing will send them a final invoice, at which point they will release remaining funds, that have been approved, to pay for your new roof.
  • Selecting a roof type.  You have many options when selecting a new roof style.  Your insurance company will approve to remove and replace a roof style that is equal to what you currently have on your roof.  If you have a 25 yr shingle currently on your home, they will pay an amount equal to a 25 yr shingle.  You still however have multiple options to choose from, from Frailey Roofing, that will be within the improved insurance amount.
  • Installing impact-resistant shingles can result in a premium reduction.  Contact your insurance agent to see how much you can save by putting on an impact resistant shingle.
